Crate & Barrel:

Based in Northbrook, Illinois, Crate & Barrel is a leading retailer specializing in housewares, furniture, and home accessories with stores across the globe.

11hundred was asked to work with an internal team of strategists, user experience designers, developers, and senior leadership to modernize their checkout and cart experience. Over the course of a year we developed concepts and extended the existing design system to direct users through an easier mobile-first checkout, a payment experience that highlights alternate payments, and a design that prioritized accessibility.

That’s great, but let’s see another twenty or so options.

A number of creative concepts were explored for the cart and checkout experience. But it was the first sketch that was made that was actually built.

System based

The design that was created leveraged the existing Crate&Barrel digital design toolkit, while finding opportunities to evolve it towards a more scalable and simple system set. Many elements were designed for reuse, to both aid in development as well as to create a clearer relationship between steps.
